Four weeks of affordable fun that’s what students count on when they sign up for Summer Adventure! This year, Summer Adventure will run from Wednesday, June 30 through Wednesday, July 28.
Celebrating its 26th year, Summer Adventure is an annual enrichment program for students entering Kindergarten through 8th grade. Sponsored by the Santa Monica-Malibu Council of PTAs and the Santa Monica-Malibu Education Foundation, Summer Adventure will run from 8:30 AM 12:30 PM at Roosevelt Elementary School and Lincoln Middle School in Santa Monica, as well as Cabrillo Elementary School in Malibu. Students will enjoy classes like cooking, sports, art, language, science, math and computer.
“The teachers love Summer Adventure because they get to teach classes in subjects they are passionate about that they may not have an opportunity to teach during the year,” commented Linda Gross, Executive Director of the Education Foundation. Gross added, “The students love it because they can pick classes based on the “fun” factor.” Middle school students especially love the “History of Rock ‘N Roll”, “Rock Climbing” and “Cooking as Science” classes. This year the language academy at Lincoln has expanded to include Spanish, French, Mandarin and Hebrew.
For children who aren’t even in school yet, the “Kindergarten Readiness” classes help them acclimate to the school environment. “Survive and Thrive” readies 5th graders for middle school. Classes change each year to pique the interests of students, adding Mandarin Chinese, History of Rock ‘n’ Roll and Yoga most recently.
